Custom CNC Machining Service for Aluminum Automation Equipment Parts

Small Batch CNC Machined Aluminum Components with Precision Finishing for Industrial Automation Systems

Industrial automation equipment often consists of multiple mechanical components that must work together accurately during assembly. Even small dimensional variations between individual parts can affect equipment performance.

YS Precision provides custom CNC machining services for automation equipment components, helping equipment manufacturers produce accurate aluminum parts from their original CAD drawings.

This project included multiple aluminum components manufactured for a U.S. automation equipment customer. The parts were produced from 6082-T6 aluminum alloy, then finished with fine sandblasting and black anodizing to achieve a durable industrial surface.

With a production quantity of approximately 30 sets, CNC machining offered the customer a flexible solution for low-volume manufacturing without the need for expensive tooling.

Manufacturing Multiple Components with Consistent Quality

Unlike single-part machining projects, automation equipment usually requires several different components to be manufactured together.

For this project, multiple aluminum parts were produced within the same production batch. Maintaining consistency between different components was essential to ensure smooth assembly at the customer's facility.

Our production team controlled:

  • Part dimensions across different components
  • Hole location accuracy
  • Thickness consistency
  • Surface finishing uniformity
  • Assembly compatibility

This approach helps customers reduce assembly adjustments after receiving the parts.

CNC Machining of Large Thin Aluminum Parts

One of the challenges of this project was machining aluminum components with a relatively large surface area and thin thickness.

The largest component measured approximately 350 × 250 × 4 mm.

Thin aluminum parts can easily experience deformation caused by machining stress or improper clamping.

To overcome this challenge, our engineers optimized:

  • CNC machining sequence
  • Fixture positioning
  • Cutting parameters
  • Material removal strategy

This helped maintain the required flatness and parallelism after machining.

Precision Requirements for Automation Applications

Automation systems depend on accurate positioning and reliable mechanical connections.

The customer required:

  • Flatness and parallelism tolerance: ±0.05 mm
  • General precision holes: ±0.05 mm
  • Critical hole features: ±0.02 mm

To achieve these requirements, each production stage was carefully controlled:

Engineering Review

Before machining, our engineers analyzed the drawings and identified critical features requiring special attention.

CNC Machining Control

Machining parameters and tooling were selected according to aluminum alloy characteristics and part structures.

Final Inspection

Critical dimensions and assembly-related features were measured before shipment.

6082-T6 Aluminum Machining and Surface Finishing

6082-T6 aluminum is widely used in industrial equipment because it provides a good balance of:

  • Mechanical strength
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Lightweight performance
  • Machining stability

After CNC machining, the components received:

Fine Sandblasting

Creating a consistent matte texture and improving surface appearance.

Black Anodizing

Providing:

  • Better wear resistance
  • Improved corrosion protection
  • Professional industrial appearance

The finishing process was completed while maintaining the customer's dimensional requirements.
