Custom Aluminum CNC Machining for Industrial Automation Applications

This project involved manufacturing a custom CNC machined aluminum mounting plate for an automation equipment application.

The customer provided the 3D CAD model and 2D drawing, and required a stable production solution for a batch of approximately 800 pieces.

The component was machined from 6061-T6 aluminum with an overall size of around 320 × 280 mm. The design includes a large mounting surface, multiple mounting holes, recessed areas, and machined features used for equipment assembly.

After CNC machining, the parts were finished with 150# fine sand blasting and natural anodizing to achieve a consistent industrial appearance and surface protection.

The finished mounting plates were inspected and shipped to the Middle East for integration into automation equipment.

Machining Considerations for Large Aluminum Mounting Plates

Although the structure of a mounting plate looks relatively simple, producing consistent parts in quantity requires careful control of the machining process.

For this project, the main considerations were maintaining the stability of the large machined surface and keeping the relationship between mounting holes and machined features consistent.

During CNC machining, the process was planned to reduce the influence of:

After machining, the parts received:

The sand blasting process created a uniform matte texture, while natural anodizing improved corrosion resistance and surface durability.

For aluminum components used in industrial equipment, controlling the transition from machining to finishing is important because surface treatment can affect both appearance and final dimensions.
